The Engineering Construction Industry Training Board (ECITB) is a statutory industry training board and an awarding body with responsibilities for the training and development of the engineering construction workforce in Great Britain.
The ECITB receives from its network of approved providers (including training providers and verifiers) information on all candidates who have either attended ECITB and other approved training courses, or have attained ECITB qualifications. The ECITB also receives information directly from candidates in application forms and through other means.
This means that the ECITB is given, and retains, candidates’ personal details (often including photographs of the candidates) together with details relating to candidates’ training and their registration for and achievement of qualifications. Some of such information is provided by candidates to the providers or directly to the ECITB. The information the ECITB holds on candidates can be made available to them on request to the ECITB (see www.ecitb.org.uk for contact information). There may be a small charge for this service.
The ECITB will retain this information in its management information system, and some information may be held in an online secure database. The ECITB will disclose information relating to the candidates’ training and qualifications to prospective employers, site operators and other relevant bodies who wish to verify that candidates have undertaken ECITB and other approved training and hold ECITB qualifications, or are in the process of such training and/or are working towards ECITB qualifications. The ECITB will also pass on information relating to vocational qualifications to the Skills Funding Agency or other government bodies in accordance with its obligations to such bodies. The ECITB will not disclose other information for any other purposes.
In this way the ECITB can protect the reputation of the ECITB’s training courses and qualifications, and enhance the value of such training and qualifications to candidates, prospective employers and site operators and to the industry generally.
